There are dentists in Singapore trained to provide routine dental treatment for adults with either intellectual disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), as well as the elderly.
For basic dental procedures, click here for the list of dentists. Please contact the dentist(s) to enquire on their services and fees before making an appointment to visit the clinic.
The general dentists may refer patients to one of the three dentists who are trained in special needs patient care if it is a complex case. Click here
to download the list of dentists who are trained to treat adults with special needs (including adults with either intellectual disabilities or ASD) for such treatments.
If the dentist assesses that General Anaesthesia is required to perform the necessary treatment, please note the following:
- - The patient may be referred to a hospital with the necessary facilities for treatment.
- - In a non-emergency situation, and if the patient is aged 21 years and above, consent from a
- deputy appointed by the Court may be required.
Oral Care for Persons with Special Needs
Good dental hygiene should be practised from an early age. It is important for caregivers to start tooth brushing as soon as baby teeth emerge (i.e. from 6-months old onwards) so that persons with special needs can get used to having their teeth brushed at a young age
